The Institute of Food Science & Technology (IFST) in London, UK, has elected David Gregory as its president. David has a portfolio of non-executive roles in food and science-related businesses and organisations; he is also a visiting professor at the University of Reading Centre for Food Security and a fellow of IFST.

Australian biotechnology company, Circa has appointed Jeff Eaves as general manager of its subsidiary company, Circa Sustainable Chemicals UK. Previously industrial liaison officer at the University of York, UK, Eaves will focus on promoting the biosolvent Cyrene in new markets.

Contract development and manufacturing organisation, Recipharm has presented its 2016 International Environmental Award to Alistair Boxall, professor in environmental science at the University of York, UK, for his research into the impact of chemical contaminants on the environment and human health.

US headquartered Biogen has appointed Anirvan Ghosh, as senior VP, research and early development (RED). Ghosh, formerly professor of neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of California, San Diego, US, focuses his academic research on understanding how connections in the brain are established during development and how these connections may be affected in neurodevelopmental disorders.

European distributor of specialty chemicals, Cornelius has appointed Tracey Taylor-Preston as group commercial director responsible for driving the company’s overall commercial strategy.

British biopharmaceuticals firm, GW Pharmaceuticals has appointed Scott Giacobello as chief financial officer (CFO). He succeeds Adam George, who becomes managing director, UK.

Henkel has appointed Rahmyn Kress as chief digital officer to accelerate the company’s digital activities. He will report directly to Henkel CEO Hans Van Bylen.

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ AIChE) fuels and petrochemical division has recognised four Honeywell UOP scientists – John Chen, John Senetar, Paul Barger and Dan Kauff – with its 2016 Industrial R&D Award for the development and commercialisation of the company’s advanced methanol-to-olefins process.

Engineering biology company, Intrexon has appointed Andy Bass as senior VP of its consumer sector, BioPop. In addition, Geno Germano is stepping down as president because the company has decided to spin out all of its human health projects under him into a separate company. His departure means chairman R. J. Kirk has suspended the process to step down as CEO.

Johna Norton has been promoted to senior VP of global quality at Eli Lilly, replacing Fionnuala Walsh who is retiring. In addition, Bart Peterson, senior VP of corporate affairs and communications, is leaving the company for personal reasons.

Lophius Biosciences, a privately held German biotech company focusing on the development and marketing of T cell-based diagnostic
systems, has appointed Robert J. Silverman, former CEO of Mtm Laboratories, to its supervisory board.

Novartis has promoted Greater China chairman Xudong Yin, while retaining this position, to lead the combined Asia-Pacific, Middle East & Africa (APMA) businesses, succeeding the retiring regional head Carlos Garcia. The Greater China market now comes under the leadership wing of APMA.

Knowledge-based consultancy, Concept Life Sciences has appointed bio-organic chemist Paul Doyle as its chief scientific officer. His appointment coincides with the company’s multimillion pound investment to expand its international client base.

Contract research organisation, TFS has appointed Bassem Saleh as chief medical officer and Edward Tumaian as VP global clinical development. They will join the operational leadership team, reporting to Montse Barceló, chief operating officer at TFS.

Clinical stage biotechnology company, Tiziana Life Sciences, which develops targeted drugs for cancer, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, has appointed Arun Sanyal as a new member of its scientific advisory board.

Former FDA deputy commissioner, Scott Gottlieb has been nominated by US president Donald Trump as FDA commissioner to lead the agency.

Biopharmaceutical concern, Relypsa, part of Vifor Pharma, has promoted Scott Garland to president.

Cancer immunotherapy developer, IRX Therapeutics has appointed Mark Leuchtenberger as president and CEO. John Hadden, founder and prior CEO of New Yorkbased IRX, will remain a director of the company.

Cambridge-based, drug discovery business, Domainex has appointed Timo Veromaa as executive chairman. Veromaa was formerly president and CEO of Finnish biotech, Biotie Therapies.

At Verona Pharma, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the treatment of respiratory diseases, Patrick Humphrey has decided to retire as a non-executive director. There are no plans to replace him. Also Richard Hennings has been appointed to its senior management team as commercial director.

Dirk Bremm is the new president of BASF’s Coatings division. He succeeds Markus Kamieth, who has been appointed to the board of BASF SE.
