What are your research interests?
I have links to agriculture as my family have lived and worked on a farm for several generations. I also have a keen interest in environmental science so I was originally attracted to my PhD project, which involved the fate and degradation of pesticides in aquatic environments. I now work for Syngenta in their product safety department to ensure new pesticides we produce pose as little threat to the environment as possible.
How did you first get involved with SCI?
I attended a Young Researchers in Crop Science event in July 2016. I was completing my PhD at the University of Warwick at the time and this was circulated by the department. It caught my eye as it was specific to my research area.
What do you hope to gain from your involvement with SCI?
I hope to network with people who work in a similar research area and also have opportunities to present my research at relevant events.
Why would you encourage your peers to join SCI?
I think anyone working in a similar area to myself (chemicals/agriculture) would benefit for the same reasons as I have. The smaller one-day events are also perfect for gaining valuable presenting experience without taking too much time out of your research schedule.
