Introducing SCI Ambassador, Priscila Estefania Valverde Almas

SCI Ambassadors - Priscila Estefania Valverde Armas“Joining SCI means getting involved in a global organization that will support you through your postgraduate studies and beyond.”

What are your research interests?
My research interests are focused on metal electrodeposition from ionic liquids systems, applied electrochemistry in the environment, water and wastewater treatment technologies, and research in education management.

How did you first get involved with SCI?
SCI awarded me a student membership as a prize for the SCI Scotland Group Competition about my research in metal electrodeposition using ionic liquids. Later, when I was still a PhD student, I was appointed as one of the organizers of the SCI Electrochemistry Postgraduate Conference 2018 in partnership with the Royal Society of Chemistry and the International Society of Electrochemistry. During this conference, delightfully my presentation was awarded as the best oral presentation.

What do you hope to gain from your involvement with SCI?
SCI offers their members a myriad of opportunities such as training, funding, and mentoring which in my point of view helped me to go through my PhD journey smoother. Now graduated, I hope to gain early-career support and valuable advice from more experienced scientists and in this manner encourage more people to explore the electrochemical engineering in a multidisciplinary fashion.

Why would you encourage your peers to join SCI?
Joining SCI means getting involved in a global organization that will support you through your postgraduate studies and beyond. SCI aims to equip their members with tools, develop their skills and provide resources to shorten the gap between theory, practice and entrepreneurship. Useful information and discounts for conferences are provided, and the printed material offers valuable discussion to keep up to date with novel research in many areas of the chemical sciences.
