Synopsis
Resolving the energy trilemma - for a sustainable, affordable and secure supply of energy - is fundamental to the prosperity of our society. While today's energy generation and consumption depend largely on established technologies, new technologies will be needed in future to achieve the target of an 80% reduction in UK CO2 emissions by 2050.
SCI's Energy Group aims to develop new perspectives on the energy trilemma by modelling a number of scenarios for the UK energy system which focus on the optimal use of available and emerging technologies. The modelling work will be conducted by Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) using its established and sophisticated ESME energy model. The modelling outputs and conclusions will be used to provide an objective, evidence-based view on the role of science and innovation in the UK energy sector, which can be utilised in government consultations, and in turn inform regulatory and market incentives and investments.
The aim of this event is to introduce Energy Group's modelling programme and its application to the work of the Chemistry Growth Partnership (CGP) on Industrial Decarbonisation. Future communications and events will focus on other sectors.
