Synopsis

Sustainability is often framed through isolated solutions, metrics or technologies. Yet, real-world outcomes are shaped by complex, interconnected systems spanning science, industry, policy, economics and society.

Where Science Meets Business 2026 (WSMB 26’) will explore sustainability through a systems-level perspective, recognising it as a dynamic system shaped by interactions, trade-offs and unintended consequences.

This year’s conference will examine the lack of a universal definition and robust measurement approach for sustainability, and how current frameworks may be limiting resilience, economic stability and long-term impact. Bringing together economists, policymakers, industry leaders and applied scientists, the programme will explore how science-based measurement systems can better support decision-making in complex systems. Through keynote talks, panel discussions and cross-sector dialogue, delegates will engage with leading voices working across disciplines and sectors to explore how sustainability can be delivered more effectively in practice.

As SCI marks 145 years of convening science and industry, this year’s conference will reinforce SCI’s role as a neutral, trusted convenor of transdisciplinary and diverse voices.
