Synopsis
SCI’s Early career materials group invites professionals from across the sustainable fuels value chain to join this focused symposium on innovation, collaboration, and future challenges in the sector. Bringing together leading figures with emerging talent from both academia and industry, this event will showcase cutting-edge research from early career scientists, highlight the latest developments in sustainable fuel technologies, and provide a forum to address the critical technical, economic, and policy challenges facing the industry today. Delegates will have the opportunity to build meaningful connections across sectors, exchange insights, and explore collaborative pathways towards a low-carbon, commercially viable energy future.
Attendees
This event is aimed at researchers in materials chemistry with an interest in the development of materials for the production of sustainable fuels – including green hydrogen, biomass derived fuels, carbon capture and utilisation systems.
It will look to bring researchers from all career stages together, but maintaining an opportunity for ECRs to showcase work and develop contacts and network. It is also aimed at industry partners looking for new avenues of research into sustainable fuels.

Call for posters or call for abstracts
Contributions are invited from early-stage researchers and PhD students working in the materials science field focused on sustainable fuels, to submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation. There will be limited opportunity for oral presentations. Unsuccessful submissions will automatically be invited to contribute a poster.
• Catalytic materials for products from sustainable feedstocks
• Catalysts for the production of sustainable materials
• Catalytic materials for improved sustainable processes.
An abstract of maximum 250 words indicating title, authors, institution and preference for presentation option (oral presentation or virtual poster) should be sent to conferences@soci.org by
Tuesday 28 April 2026 with the subject line “SCI Sustainable Fuels - abstract submission”. Presentation slots are inevitably limited and will be allocated to achieve a balanced programme – researchers will be invited to contribute a poster if submission is not chosen for oral presentation. An
abstract template can be downloaded.
