The SCI London Group has organised a number of very succesful Members' Lunch and Lecture events - which ceased whilst the refurbishment of the Belgrave Square premises was under way. Now it's time to start again this popular event.
The Black Stuff
We drive on it, it waterproofs and protects buildings and structures, but many never realise the science, engineering and chemistry behind asphalt and bitumen. The ever increasing demands to improve the material properties of this complex material has resulted in interesting developments. It's not just about roads and paving - bitumen itself is used in a whole range of materials.
The lecture will be given by Dr Fred Parrett who spent 30 years as a development consultant for a major asphalt producer and his presentation will cover the story behind this fascinating material and it's many uses. The talk will not be too technical and members' partners and friends are most welcome to attend.
SCI accessibility grants are available to support SCI members with disabilities, long term health conditions, those who require a carer, and members who are nursing parents to attend SCI events. Download an application form to apply for a grant.
