Synopsis

The development and commercialisation of science has been fundamental to Manchester and the North's growth for many years - from splitting the atom and the early development of computers to the discovery of Graphene. The successful commercialisation of science along with the associated development of skills has long been a key driver of economic growth, which will only continue to accelerate as technical developments gather pace.

Leading into Manchester's celebrations of being 'The European City of Science' this conference will explore the development and commercialisation of great science, offer case studies drawn from successful businesses and provide the opportunity to ask questions of those involved.

Different approaches to science and its diverse subsets require different and often unique skills. This will be investigated through the exploration of some original research comparing innovation and invention, its impact on organisational development and the need to acquire these differing skill sets.

The conference will culminate by taking a countrywide view of the importance of science to the economy, before returning to reflect on the future of Manchester's science legacy.

The conference is aimed at individuals and organisations involved in science, technology, research, development and its subsequent commercialisation who would welcome engaging in discussion about cutting-edge technology, maximising returns, organisational development and the resultant skills agenda.

The conference will offer fantastic networking opportunities between people interested in the above and help attendees make the connections they need to grow and develop their own businesses.
