Liverpool and North West Group

Established 2006

Message from the Chair

Dr Trevor Rhodes

Chair

As with many matters in life, the saying ‘the more you put in the more you get out,’ is true in the Liverpool and North West region. Our region spans Cheshire, Lancashire, Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales. Plans for the year ahead include events and support for young people, students, professionals and the public.

We seek to encourage, stimulate and promote science, its ideas, problems and solutions to the next generation in order to maintain the strong chemical industry sector in the region with the support of education.

In brief

SCI's Liverpool and North West Group follows the merger of the Liverpool and Manchester Sections in 2006. Both areas have distinguished histories, with Liverpool, and especially Widnes already well established in the manufacturing and processing of chemicals at the time of SCI’s foundation in 1881.

Manchester has produced some distinguished figures in chemistry, including Henry Roscoe, who established the first practical chemicals laboratory in the UK.
