The science of soft interfaces (lipid membranes, emulsions, particle-stabilized droplets etc) is rapidly moving into an era of predictive capability that allows the design and development of advanced materials to be based on secure scientific knowledge.

Duke University chemist wins prestigious SCI, Royal Society of Chemistry /IOM3 prize

Prof Benjamin Wiley from Duke University, North Carolina is our Beilby Medal and Prize winner for 2015.

The Beilby Medal and Prize is awarded annually by SCI's Materials Chemistry Group, the Royal Society of Chemistry and Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) and carries a prize of £1000. The award recognises work of exceptional practical significance in chemical engineering, applied materials science, energy efficiency or a related field.

Review of 134th SCI AGM

The 134th SCI AGM was attended by 66 members. Following a vote, the AGM saw the election of Dr Alan Baylis and the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, as well as four Trustees. Members were also elected unopposed as Ordinary Members of the three Standing Committees. SCI Honorary President Paul Booth OBE was succeeded by Neil Carson.

Day of Science and Careers Scotland was held on Monday 1 June 2015 at the University of Aberdeen and had over 45 attendees.

Congratulations to SCI Travel Bursary Winners

The March 2015 round of travel bursary applications (for travel between July and December 2015) were assessed by the judging panel and we are pleased to announce that fourteen of the applicants have been awarded bursaries for their attendance at a conference or laboratory visit.
