In today's Daily Digest, investment in clean energy set to rise to $1.7 trillion in 2023, Adnoc partnership to develop new seawater treatment facility, and more.

Environment

The European Parliament’s Environment Committee has adopted its position on rules to further reduce pollution and steer large agro-industrial organisations in the green transition. Installations covered by the rules can only operate if they obtain a permit granted by national authorities.

Adnoc has partnered to develop a world class seawater treatment facility and transportation network, which the company says will reduce its environmental footprint. The project will be connected to the grid and receive 100% of its power from clean energy sources.

Energy

The International Renewable Energy Agency and Bloomberg Philanthropies have announced a COP28 partnership which will seek to accelerate clean energy deployment mobilisation of capital in emerging markets and developing countries. IRENA says that the support from Bloomberg will allow it drive the widespread adoption of renewable energy and reduce political, technical, and financial barriers to energy transition.

The IEA has said that investment in clean energy is set to rise to $1.7 trillion in 2023. The IEA said that increasing affordability and concerns caused by the global energy crisis have increased the momentum towards more sustainable options.

Business

Johnson Matthey has said that its preliminary results for year ended 31 March 2023 are in line with expectations, albeit below the prior year, against a challenging economic backdrop. Business wins in Catalyst Technologies and Hydrogen Technologies underpin confidence in strong growth prospects.
