The UK government's Department for Science Innovation and Technology has become the first government department to join the STEM Futures Scheme. The scheme, which is across the whole of government, and is a partnership between academia, industry and the public sector is focused on driving science and technological expertise in the civil service.
Energy
The Faraday Battery Challenge has awarded three universities a share of £3.2 million to support the UK's regional battery sectors. Universities in Birmingham, Coventry and Newcastle will share the funding.

Last week, 7th September, was International Clean Air Blue Skies Day. Organised by UNEP and marked since 2019, the day focuses on building multistakeholder partnerships, bolstering investment, and embracing a responsibility to tackle air pollution.
The UNFCCC's Global Stocktake Report is calling for an acceleration in implementation of climate mitigation policies to meet the 2015 Paris Agreement. It acknowledges that many 'creative and actionable solutions' are already in place.

The US Environmental Protection Agency, is calling for nominations for the 2024 Green Chemistry Challenge Awards. Entries can come from companies or institutions that have developed a new green chemistry process or product that helps protect human health and the environment.
