London, 2nd March 2026 – SCI, in partnership with independent consultants ERM, have published data showing that energy prices in the UK, already some of the highest in the world, are set to keep rising through to the 2030s.
The report outlines that these high energy costs mean that the UK is not competitive, and that the situation is getting worse.
Electricity prices in the UK are higher than in any comparative economy – four times higher than the US, and more than twice as high as those in China, according to IEA figures.
ERM analysis divided the costs, broadly into Energy Cost and Non Energy Costs, before breaking those costs down further into individual components to study their historic price evolution, and key policy interventions impact cost items.
SCI is calling for an independent enquiry into energy prices for industry in the UK, to ensure that the UK retains an industrial base that is agile enough to underpin a new era of economic growth, and resilient enough to keep us secure in the complex, unpredictable new world order.
