Bright SCIdea Challenge: Basics of Business 1: Defining the Market

    Duration: 3:02 13 November 2017 Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne

In the first of our exclusive, free business training videos for entrants of the Bright SCIdea Challenge, Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne, founder of Genius Gluten Free, provides her tips for defining the market for your innovation – a crucial step in your business plan.

Lucinda studied physiology at the University of London, and went on to train as a chef at Leiths School of Food and Wine. Pairing her scientific and culinary expertise, she released a book on cooking for allergies in 2007.

After struggling to find quality alternative bread for her gluten-intolerant son, Lucinda founded Genius Foods in 2009 with her gluten-free bread – the first fresh gluten free bread product to reach market. First sold in Tesco, Genius bread is now the UK’s leading ‘free-from’ bakery and is sold across Europe and in Australia.

Lucinda has won numerous awards for her work at Genius Foods, including the Ernst & Young UK Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year 2012. The company has also been named as one of the Top 50 most valuable Scottish brands.
