Co-Editor-in Chief, The Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology

Applications are invited for the position of Co-Editor-in-Chief to lead the editorial team of the Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology (JCTB).  Part of a portfolio of curated, peer reviewed journals published by SCI, JCTB delivers on our charitable objectives to accelerate scientific research through the promotion, curation and publishing of cutting-edge science.

OVERVIEW OF THE JOURNAL

The Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology is an inter-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal concerned with application of scientific discoveries and advancements in chemical and biological technology that aim towards economically and environmentally sustainable industrial processes.

The Journal is published by Wiley on behalf of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) - where science meets business on independent, impartial grounds. Launched in 1882, JCTB has been delivering on SCI’s overarching mission for over 140 years: advancing scientific innovation and facilitating collaboration to support scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs, for the benefit of society.

With members in over 70 countries, and a robust corporate partner network spanning a diverse range of industries, SCI has the global reach required to ensure that new insights from JCTB are accelerated into industry, to deliver solutions to today’s societal challenges.

THE ROLE

The primary purpose of the role will be to work with the current EiC, Professor Dionissios Mantzavinos, to drive the quality and direction of the journal, provide strategic leadership and enhance the reputation of the journal.

This will involve:

  • Maintaining the high quality and integrity of the Journal by ensuring efficient handling of papers by board members with the support of the Editorial Office.
  • Developing the Journal by attending editorial board meetings and SCI publications committee meetings; representing the Journal at scientific meetings; driving Journal development (e.g. aims & scope) and supporting and realising strategic editorial plans.
  • Leading the Editorial Board by advising on composition of the editorial board, mentoring new board members, and monitoring Board Members' performance in conjunction with the Editorial Office.

  • Peer support from fellow Editors-in-Chief in SCI’s portfolio of 8 research journals and membership of SCI’s Publications Committee.
  • An annual honorarium, expenses to attend the annual Editorial Board meeting in London, and ad-hoc travel support to international conferences that present an opportunity to promote the journal.
  • Full training will be provided on journal processes and publishing systems.
  • A publishing environment which is closely tied to SCI’s goals of supporting innovation and encouraging the application of science for the benefit of society.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The successful candidate will be an active researcher and recognised expert within the field of Biotechnology, as relevant to the scope of JCTB, with an excellent International scientific track record and strong record of publication.

Other essential attributes include:

  • Editorially independent, with no clear conflict of interest
  • Experience with online editorial processes
  • Up to date with relevant technological advances in publishing/dissemination of science
  • Previous editorial experience would be desirable
