I was delighted to see the C&I Leader, ‘Sign of insanity’ (C&I 2008,12, 4). I will not repeat my previously published arguments (C&I 2007, 16, 16 and 18, 16), but they agree with some of the views of the 31 000 US scientists on the actual relationship between CO2 emissions and such global warming as does, or may really, exist
There is already a feedback mechanism for reducing the ocean’s acidity (C&I 2008, 14, 24). Normal sea pH is in the region of 8.3 to 8.4. As CO2 is adsorbed the pH falls to 8.2 and then there is the formation of bicarbonate, which raises the pH to normal levels
