RS/SCI Studentships

The RS/SCI Studentship scheme, which was set up with the legacy left to SCI and the Royal Society (RS) by former SCI life member Sydney Andrew, provides funding for two RS Fellows, giving them the opportunity to enlist a student to support their project.

To fulfil the research element, SCI is delighted to have partnered with the Royal Society to fund PhD studentships, which complement the existing Royal Society Industry Fellowship Scheme.

Award History

Former SCI life member, Sydney Andrew FRS, left a legacy to SCI to support academic research into 'neglected science' (areas of science that, although of importance in agriculture and the chemical industry, receive scant attention from academic research) and for the founding of the Andrew Medal Lecture on the same theme.

Applications

Industry Fellowship applicants can include a request for a PhD student in support of their research. SCI currently funds a maximum of one PhD studentship for a successful Fellowship applicant per year, working in an appropriate research area.

SCI Scholarships

The SCI Scholars fund, established in 1920, was endowed by the bequests of Rudolph Messel and John Gray, former presidents and founding members of SCI. SCI is proud to offer 2-year scholarships to up to three outstanding PhD students who are approaching their final years of study.

Ramsay Trust Memorial Fellowship

Fellowships are awarded annually by the Ramsay Memorial Fellowships Trust to postdoctoral chemists who may have already had some postdoctoral experience of research but who are in the early stages of their career, so that they may initiate a programme of original and independent research.
