The Global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, and food security already lags behind the needs of the existing population, leaving millions hungry or malnourished. Yet agriculture already uses 40% of the earth’s land surface and 70% of available freshwater whilst producing 11% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development identifies three key challenges facing agriculture - feeding a growing population, providing a livelihood for farmers, and protecting the environment.

At the SCI Agrisciences group, and in conjunction with stakeholders in the science-based agricultural community, we address key questions: Can we protect crops and livestock sustainably? Can we maintain production without harming the environment? We are working across interest groups to host careers events, foster networking among our members and stakeholders, and strive to engage policy makers and the public across the AgriFood sector. We are - Feeding the Future.

Our group member's have interests spanning food security, environmental/climate policy, soil science, crop production and protection agents, animal husbandry and other topics from farm to fork.
