SCI's Australia International Group in conjunction with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI) NSW Branch, invites members and their guests to go Up and Atom with a behind the scenes tour of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) at Lucus Heights, one of Australia’s largest and most strategically important research organisations.
Home to more than 350 scientists and researchers, ANSTO hosts some of the nation’s most critical scientific infrastructure including Australia’s only research reactor, advanced neutron beam instruments, particle accelerators, and the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, Victoria. These world class facilities underpin cutting edge research across chemistry, materials science, pharmaceuticals, energy, and advanced manufacturing.
Guided by ANSTO’s expert education and science staff, this tour will explore how nuclear science and analytical techniques at the atomic and molecular scale are being applied to solve real world challenges in health, climate change, sustainability, and industrial innovation. The experience will highlight strong links between fundamental science and industry impact making it especially relevant for SCI/RACI members.
This is a rare and highly sought after opportunity to step inside a working national research facility, see scientists in action, and gain insight into Australia’s atomic age infrastructure that supports chemistry driven innovation across industry and society.
This event is intended for those engaged in or interested in research within the fields of chemistry, materials science, pharmaceuticals, energy, and advanced manufacturing. It welcomes participants at all career stages, from undergraduates to retirees.
Drinks followed by an early dinner at: Pane E Vino Trattoria, 2/72 Allison Crescent, Menai, NSW 2234. On registration, select whether site visit only or you would like to attend the dinner.
Every attendee will be sent an email link to upload a form of identification, for example a driver’s licence, to ANSTO. Please remember to bring this ID with you when you visit the site. Additionally, keep in mind that all phones and recording devices must be left at the Discovery Centre before the event begins.
Enclosed flat shoes and long pants must be worn.
