Organised by:
SCI's Horticulture Group
London, UK
The Quarantine Unit at Kew is a purpose built facility that was opened in 2011.
Sara Redstone, Senior Plant Health and Quarantine Officer will lead the group on a bespoke tour of the facility, whilst explaining its role in safeguarding the Living Collections (and archive collections) at Kew and underpinning the research undertaken by Kew scientists.
Sara will show how she and her colleagues manage the daily import onto site of plant material and how this is managed in line with plant health legislation and other relevant conventions such as CITES and CBD.
We will also get to see how the unit deals with quarantine for plant exports (for conservation projects) and how they support officers from the UK Border Force and inspectors from the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s Plant Health and Seed Inspectorate.
This visit has been organised to highlight the International Year of Plant Health on Fascination of Plants Day 2020.
Entry fees to Kew are each attendees own responsibility.
