SCI welcomes Make UK’s Industrial Strategy: A Manufacturing Ambition report, which makes an urgent call for an Industrial Strategy for the UK – something which 99% of manufacturers in the UK believe is necessary and which we at SCI have repeatedly called for since the previous Strategy was dropped in 2021.
As the report states, the UK’s major strength is in innovation, through our strong science base, our world class global companies, and across the many high value-added manufacturers which make up supply chains and provide bespoke solutions to global producers – but UK industry needs to take a global view.
The report specifically highlights recent industrial strategies and legislation passed in the United States, Germany, the Netherlands, France, New Zealand to support clean growth through innovation.
We cannot fall behind. Given the UK’s world-leading science and industry base, it is imperative not only for the UK but indeed for the rest of the world that UK science and science-based industry is properly supported by policy.
We have the science and the companies – we now need a Strategy to accelerate our science-based solutions to global challenges, through industry, into real-world products and processes for the benefit of society worldwide.
