When and why did you become a member of SCI?
I’ve been a member of SCI since 2016. I joined when I was a PhD student as SCI offered a wide range of events, networking opportunities, and award schemes.
Why did you decide to get involved in committee work?
SCI has played a pivotal role in supporting my career, so I wanted to volunteer as a member of the College of Scholars committee to give back to both SCI and the wider scientific community.
What has driven your continued involvement with SCI?
My values closely align with SCI’s vision and strategic missions. My continued involvement with the SCI’s College of Scholars is driven by a strong motivation to support and empower the next generation of scientists, inventors and entrepreneurs, helping them to thrive and make meaningful contributions to society.
How has being involved in SCI activities had an impact on your professional career?
During my time as a PhD student and postdoctoral researcher, SCI offered invaluable networking opportunities that allowed me to connect with scientists and entrepreneurs from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. I found their career journeys deeply inspiring and motivating. Serving as a committee member further enriched my experience, enabling me to develop key skills in communication and event management.
How do your SCI activities reflect your personal/professional interests?
My involvement with SCI closely reflects my interests in fostering collaboration, promoting continuous learning, and supporting early-career scientists. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with other SCI members in organising the annual Scholars Showcase event and College of Scholars Day.
What advice would you give to Early career individuals joining the society?
Get involved as much as possible—whether it's attending events, joining committees, or applying for awards. Don’t hesitate as you never know where a single opportunity might take you!
How do you think that your contribution has helped shape SCI?
I believe my contributions through the College of Scholars committee have helped strengthen SCI’s commitment to supporting early-career scientists and fostering a collaborative, inclusive community.
What are your thoughts about receiving an Early Career Award?
I’m truly honoured to receive the Early Career Award. I am sincerely grateful for this recognition, and I remain committed to continuing my contributions and giving back to the community that has supported me throughout my journey.
