Tezcan Guney is the recipient of the 2013 Perkin Scholarship, awarded by the SCI America Group.
Tezcan received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Sakarya University in Turkey, summa cum laude. He is currently a PhD candidate in organic chemistry at Iowa State University under the guidance of Dr George A Kraus.
His graduate work has been dedicated toward developing new synthetic strategies and applying them to the total synthesis of biologically active natural products.
Tezcan has broad-ranging research interests and has investigated the novel transformation of carbohydrate feedstocks into bio-based chemicals. In addition, he has successfully completed projects at the Corporate Strategic Research Department of ExxonMobil as a summer graduate intern and is also the recipient of the Noble Hines Fellowship.
Upon graduation, Tezcan aims to pursue a postdoctoral appointment and ultimately a research career as he strives to make innovative contributions at the forefront of organic chemistry, particularly in creating methodologies for total synthesis.
