Isabelle Decorso is a 2023 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
Though originally from a small town outside of Guelph Ontario, Isabelle started her journey at Trent University (Peterborough) in 2019. There, Isabelle studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, graduating with Honours on the President’s Honour Roll. Though it began in high school, Isabelle discovered her true passion for science after just a few short months at Trent University.
In her fourth year, Isabelle was taken under the supervision of Dr. Steven Rafferty where she studied a protective redox-active protein in the upper intestinal parasite Giardia intestinalis, the causative organism of giardiasis. Isabelle has since continued the same research in her M. Sc, funded through an Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and is on track to graduate in mid-2025. In 2023, Isabelle presented her work at Canadian Parasitology Network Symposium and Southern Ontario Undergraduate Student Chemistry Conference and looks forward to any further contributions she may make in the scientific field.
When not at school, Isabelle enjoys playing card games, and spending time with her friends and family.
