Sir Eric Rideal Lecture

The Sir Eric Rideal Lecture is a late-career or “lifetime achievement award”, which recognises and honours an individual who has made a sustained and distinguished contribution to colloid and interface science in the UK. The recipient will receive the Award as the culmination of a one-day scientific meeting organised around them.

The Lecture is named after Sir Eric Rideal, who was one of the founders of catalysis and gave his name to the Eley Rideal mechanism. He was also famous for his work at the Colloid Science Laboratory which he set up in Cambridge University in the 1930s.

The winner of the Sir Eric Rideal Lecture for 2023 is Andrew Howe from Aqdot Ltd.

Nominations

Nominations for the Sir Eric Rideal Lecture can be made by any member of the Colloids Group (SCI CSCG and RSC CISG). The Joint Colloids Group Committee selects the recipient.

Lecture Details

The winner will be expected to give a lecture at the Annual General Meeting of the Colloid and Surface Chemistry Group and will be presented with a certificate. Currently serving members of the Joint Colloids Group Committee are not eligible for the award.

Eligibility Criteria

    Background
    • Authority in Colloid, Surface and Interface Science with a professional career of more than 30 years’ duration (after completion of postgraduate study).
    • Candidates need not be UK-based necessarily, but they will have had sustained and significant connections with the UK colloid, interface and surface science community and a marked impact upon work in the UK.

Thomas Graham Lecture

The Graham Lecture will be awarded to those working in the UK who are in the prime of their research careers, have established an international reputation in colloid science, and have already made distinguished contributions to the field of colloid science.
