Synopsis

The Plant of the Year Award was established in 1965 to recognise significant contributions in Australia to profitable and sustainable manufacturing operations, including operational, scientific and technology aspects. No award has been made in years when no applicants of a sufficient quality were submitted. After a hiatus of several years, the Award was revived in 2023 with judging criteria focusing on:

  • Occupational and environmental health and safety
  • Innovation
  • What needs are met (industrial, community and/or social)
  • Contribution to the circular economy
  • Contribution to general health and wellbeing
  • Contribution to the general economy

This awards evening will formally recognise the 2025 Plant of the Year award winner and highly commended runner up.  The Plant of the Year is to be awarded to Jemena and Sydney Water for the Jemena biomethane production facility supported by and operating within the Sydney Water Malabar wastewater treatment complex.  Tri-Tech Chemicals will receive the highly commended award for their R&D and sustainable chemical manufacturing operations in Sunshine West, Victoria.
