Synopsis

Following the success of this event, we are launching a sister award and meeting for a Chemist in Industry (https://www.soci.org/events/fine-chemicals-group/2023/chemist-in-industry). Solving chemistry problems is central to so many industries and it is the people in the laboratories who are making this happen. This is a meeting to celebrate and recognise that community.

This event will be of interest to industrial chemists to discover what their contemporaries are working on in other companies and other areas of research, but also for academic chemists who want to find out the different challenges and focus that working in an industrial setting offers. It presents a superb opportunity for younger chemists to showcase their industrial research to an external audience. Prizes will be awarded for the best talk and runners-up. In addition, a lecture from a leading industrial chemist will conclude the proceedings. All talks will be followed by a chance to ask questions and the networking opportunity allows a possible exchange of ideas.

Call for Abstracts

Early-career scientists are sought to give 25-minute talks at the event. As for previous meetings, experimentalists rather than managers are encouraged to speak. The age limit is 35 and there are no restrictions based on education (both graduates and postgraduates welcome). Please download an abstract template here and send an abstract (100 words max) with the subject line “30th Young Chemist in Industry - abstract submission”, along with a title, a scheme or figure if applicable and a very brief career history to conferences@soci.org by Friday 16 June 2023. Prizes will be awarded for the best talk and runners-up.

Attendees

This meeting is aimed at chemists working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or agrochemical sector and would provide them with a unique opportunity to discover what their contemporaries do in other branches of the industry. The meeting would also appeal to graduates and post-graduates with a background in organic chemistry.
