SCI Members vote to strengthen governance

21 January 2021

An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the Society of Chemical Industry, held on 18 January 2021, has voted in favour of proposals to strengthen the governance of the Society.

A proposal to strengthen the role of the SCI President and the formation of a new President’s Council of senior stakeholders to support the strategic development of the Society was passed with 84.3% of the votes.

A second proposal to strengthen the Board of Trustees, including appointing the Chair (with SCI members still being able to put themselves forward) and ensuring regular refreshment of Trustees, was passed with 82% of the votes.

A two-thirds majority is required to approve each resolution. Voting was overseen by an independent scrutineer.

Thanking members for their ongoing support, Alan Bayliss, Chair, Board Trustees, said that the changes would now be put before the Privy Council for approval. Members will be contacted once the Privy Council gives its decision.
