SCI’s All Ireland Group Chair, David Birkett, visited Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT)’s Chemistry Awards on 5 April to present Olivia Mahony with the award for Best Performing Student of the MSc Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance and Biotechnology course.
In addition to her award, Olivia was delighted to accept a position on SCI’s All Ireland Group Committee. The SCI All Ireland Group, founded in 2009, aims to foster better links between molecular sciences, chemistry-based industry and the general public across the whole of Ireland. The Group regularly arranges talks by industry experts from Ireland and overseas, aimed at industrialists, chemistry teachers and interested members of the public.
Olivia completed her MSc, graduating with Distinction, in 2021. Her dissertation examined Quality Risk Management in a Virtual Pharmaceutical Company. Olivia has worked for pharmaceutical company Endo International in quality and compliance since 2019.
DIT recently merged with several other colleges and institutes to form the Technical University of Dublin (TU Dublin). Owing to this significant merger and the Covid-19 pandemic, the award has not been given for several years, but DIT was able to revive the ceremony at the splendid new Central Quad building on the TU Dublin Grangegorman Campus this year.
The atrium of this new state-of-the-art teaching facility hosts an impressive sculpture by Alexandra Carr, called Solaris Nexum, which references solar energy and the structure of DNA.
