SCI has published its latest virtual collection, which showcases novel research centred around mushrooms and fungi.
Mushrooms and fungi have different uses throughout their life cycle, and the research in this new collection highlights new uses that go beyond their conventional nutritional benefits.
With uses in everything from semiconductors to cancer treatment, the special collection gathers research that has been published across SCI’s journal portfolio that has real-world implications and can drive societal benefit.
That’s because the role of mushrooms in helping to solve global societal challenges is generating growing interest for researchers. Data from Clarivate shows a 21% increase in research in this area between 2020 and 2025 - a growth rate 7% higher than in research published across all topics.
The new online virtual collection from SCI highlights just how wide-ranging the potential benefits are: papers are gathered from SCI’s Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology, Pest Management Science, and also from Chemistry & Industry magazine, with a look at how fungi-based materials could, one day, be used to create buildings on Mars.
You can see the full SCI mushrooms virtual collection here, or take a look at some of the papers from the collection listed below:
