David Miller Award Applications Now Open

11 January 2019

Calling all young horticulturists and plant scientists! The SCI Horticulture Group has now opened applications for the 2019 David Miller award. Two travel bursaries with the value of £500 each along with other benefits that are available this year. If you would like the chance to win one of these superb awards, then continue reading…

David Miller was a driving force in the creation of SCI's Horticulture Group and helped steer it through its formative years. He was particularly interested in helping and encouraging younger people to develop their careers in the industry and the award has been especially designed to recognise this.

The award aims to give two young horticulturists or plant scientists the opportunity of overseas travel in connection with their horticultural careers. Applicants should be in the second or final year of a higher education qualification (BSc, HND, Kew Diploma etc) or studying for an MSc or PhD. They should be registered on courses in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.

Recipients will each receive a £500 travel grant, a year’s Student SCI membership, a year's Eden Project Membership, and will be admitted to the SCI's College of Scholars. The award is intended to supplement, rather than wholly finance, a journey. Applicants should submit a 500 word statement setting out the purpose which the award will be put towards.

All applications must be completed using the online nomination form by the closing date 15 April 2019.

Further information and a link to the online application form are available via the links below.
