Natalie Robinson is a 2025 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
My name is Natalie, and I recently graduated from the University of Windsor with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, where I was honoured to receive the Board of Governors Medal for achieving the highest standing in the Chemistry and Biochemistry programme. During my undergraduate studies, the University of Windsor fuelled my passion for research. I was awarded two NSERC Undergraduate Student research Awards (USRAs) and collaborated with international research institutions in the UK and the USA. These experiences heightened my interest in scientific innovation and discovery.
In my final year, I undertook an undergraduate research project, which focused on investigating the lipid organisation in mitochondrial membranes during cell death using neutron scattering techniques. This work aimed to contribute to the development of targeted cancer therapeutics. For this project, I was granted the Hutnik Research Award for an outstanding undergraduate thesis in Biochemistry. This September, I will continue my academic and research journey as I begin my Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of Windsor. I look forward to further exploring the relationship between mitochondrial membrane dynamics and disease, particularly in the context of cancer.
