Canada Student Merit Award Recipient, Taylor Prince

Taylor Prince is a 2025 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.

Taylor Prince graduated from Lakehead University with an Honours B.Sc. in biology and chemistry in 2025. While at Lakehead University, she was part of the Lakehead University Society of Chemists (LUSC), where she was the secretary (2022-2024) and vice-president (2024-2025).

She completed her undergraduate Honours Thesis and was a two-time NSERC USRA recipient (2024 and 2025), where her research was supervised under Dr Christine Gottardo. Her research focus was microwave-assisted Truce-Smiles rearrangements, where the reaction was optimised and tested with a myriad of ionic liquids. Near the end of her research at Lakehead University, she began testing synthesised ionic liquids as solvents for the Claisen Rearrangement.

Currently, she is at the University of Ottawa, where she is now under the supervision of Dr Jeffrey Keillor for her MSc in chemistry with a concentration in biomolecular science. Her research now focuses on medicinal chemistry and the enzyme transglutaminase 2.
