11 Sep 2014
It has been traditional for all of SCI's standing committees to hold an open meeting each year which all SCI members are encouraged to attend. The Membership Affairs Committee (MAC) held its 2014 open event on 12 June. This is the opportunity for members to learn what MAC is trying to do, to see how it reacts to suggestions from members, learn to understand some of the problems that SCI faces in these difficult financial times and how they are being tackled. And where they are encouraged to offer support, ideas and questions to the entire committee.
Topics that featured strongly on 12 June included the allocation of Group Budgets, one of MAC's responsibilities and the ideas from members. Another of MAC's responsibilities is the Members' Forum and discussions were held on how the event should be structured, what the members wanted to gain from it and how we could attract more ordinary members. The guests came up with several ideas that will be considered for inclusion in 2015.
MAC also considers recruitment and retention of members, communication within and outside SCI, the evening lecture series and the rationalisation of all SCI's various interests and opportunity. Progress in all these areas was described to the guests.

Can you as a member afford not to be involved? Please put the date of the Open MAC meeting in 2015 in your diaries now – it will be Thursday 18 June.
We hope to see you there!
