Neil Carson to become SCI Honorary President

Neil Carson will become SCI Honorary President at the AGM on 1 July 2015, succeeding Paul Booth OBE.

Neil worked for 34 years for Johnson Matthey, the FTSE 100 Chemical company.  Starting as an Engineering graduate trainee, he worked in each of the divisions in a number of different roles serving global markets. He joined the board of Johnson Matthey in 1999 as Division Director of the Autocatalyst division and became the CEO in 2004, standing down in 2014. During his time as CEO, Neil tripled R&D spend over 10 years, introduced Sustainability as a core value to the company and drove its Environmental Catalyst business to exceed half the sales and profits of the group. Johnson Matthey’s market capital increased from less than £2B to nearly £7 billion which drove it to number 60 in the FT 100 index.

Neil is currently Chairman of TT Electronics and is SID and Chair of Remco at AMEC Foster Wheeler and at Pay Point Plc. He is also the joint Chairman alongside the Minister of State for Business and Enterprise and Energy for the Chemistry Growth Partnership. Neil was a founder member of the Prince of Wales Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change. 

Neil, who lives south of Cambridge, is married with three grown-up children and enjoys playing golf and tennis and watching rugby.
