The transition from the lab to the market is a major obstacle for technical SMEs, spin-outs and start-ups striving to build a sustainable business.
For researchers from both universities and industry who are looking to commercialise their ideas, those seeking support, or those who are just curious to learn from entrepreneurs who have successfully bridged the ‘valley of death’, SCI’s Science and Enterprise Group is holding the first meeting in its Taking Laboratory Discoveries to the Market series at SCI, London on
12 September 2018.
Entitled ‘From Brain to Bank: The Journey of Creating Value from Science’, the meeting aims to connect emerging businesses and budding entrepreneurs with venture capitalists, IP experts, experienced consultants and inspirational industrialists who have successfully created their business from the bench up.
The meeting will offer a creative environment to accelerate innovations on their journey to the marketplace, with plenty of opportunities to network and engage with people who have the relevant knowledge and resources.
Talks include:
- Keynote: The journey from idea to market entry
Paul Hodges, Chairman, International eChem (IeC)
- Case Study: Successful corporate investment in technology and start-up
Damian Kelly, Head of Global R&D, Croda
- The journey to a successful collaboration or partnership
Jenny Ames, Director, Jenny Ames Consulting
- Using patents to maximise the value of your inventions
Charlotte Crowhurst, Patent Attorney and Partner, Potter Clarkson LLP
The exciting programme will include a keynote on the journey from idea to market entry, sessions on business models and IP, financing ideas, projects and companies, and the resourcing of start-ups. The event will conclude with a panel Q&A and will be followed with a networking wine reception.
SCI’s core mission is to be where science meets business, and this event will certainly live up to that motto.
