Get Involved with the Scotland Regional Group

24 Nov 2014

The strapline for SCI is 'where science meets business'. SCI is in an excellent position to help foster collaborations in research and development between academics and industry and to facilitate networking. With regards to education, SCI can identify and promote professional development relevant to the needs of industry and provide real-life case studies for academic students.

Within our membership we aim to have involvement from industrial members from large multinationals to SMEs, academics and those with working on the business side of chemical industries. The chemical sciences span a broad range of sectors including Oil and Gas, Food and Drink, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals involving disciplines as broad as chemists, physicists, geoscientists, biologists, food technologists, engineers and medics in the development of new technologies and solving existing challenges. Business and management involvement brings value in ensuring that economic impact is met efficiently and appropriately. The SCI Scotland Group is a regional focus group within Scotland able to reflect upon the challenges faced locally.

There are opportunities to:

  • Hold evening lectures and networking events (analogous to the events held at SCI, London)
  • To promote student learning and professional development tailored to the needs of Scottish industry in the Chemical Sciences.
  • Provide information and support to entrepreneurs and start-ups in the Chemical Sciences in Scotland.
  • If you are interested in finding out more about what the Group has to offer, would like to become more involved in our activities or join the organising committee, please contact communications@soci.org.

We are pleased to announce that the Scotland Group is now under new chairmanship. Dr Tiffany Wood from the University of Edinburgh was elected Chair at the Group's AGM in October. Tiffany replaces Prof Russell Howe, who has served as Chair of the Group for six years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Russell for his sterling work and commitment towards the Group over the past few years.
