The strapline for SCI is 'where science meets business'. SCI is in an excellent position to help foster collaborations in research and development between academics and industry and to facilitate networking. With regards to education, SCI can identify and promote professional development relevant to the needs of industry and provide real-life case studies for academic students.
Within our membership we aim to have involvement from industrial members from large multinationals to SMEs, academics and those with working on the business side of chemical industries. The chemical sciences span a broad range of sectors including Oil and Gas, Food and Drink, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals involving disciplines as broad as chemists, physicists, geoscientists, biologists, food technologists, engineers and medics in the development of new technologies and solving existing challenges. Business and management involvement brings value in ensuring that economic impact is met efficiently and appropriately. The SCI Scotland Group is a regional focus group within Scotland able to reflect upon the challenges faced locally.
