Brian Vincent Travel Bursary

The Brian Vincent travel bursary is a collaboration between SCI, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the Australasian Colloid and Interface Society (ACIS), and supports early career researchers from the UK and Australia to attend conferences in colloid and interface science. It promotes international academic exchange, strengthening connections and knowledge sharing.

The Brian Vincent travel bursary is now open for nominations to attend the Australasian Colloid and Interface Symposium (ACIS) 2026. Download the application form and return to awards@soci.org - please include a letter of support from the applicant's line manager/supervisor confirming that the funds are available for registration fee and other expenses. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit an abstract to ACIS by the 15th September.

The applicant must be a current financial member of RSC/SCI at the time of application.

Applications

The application must be made within five years of undergraduate degree conferral, with career interruptions (such as for illness, caring or parenting responsibilities, etc.) being taking into consideration by the RSC/SCI or ACIS awards committee when determining eligibility

Applications can be submitted by completing the online application form via the link, when applications open. Applications will only be considered from RSC or SCI student or standard members - SCI travel bursaries are not available to SCI e-members or non-members.

Award Details

The awards consists of a bursary of £1,500 to subsidise travel and accommodation for RSC / SCI members to attend an Australasian Colloid and Interface Symposium (ACIS). 50% to be paid upfront once member has been accepted and the remaining 50% on receipt of a conference report for the newsletter / website along with proof of travel. The prize does not cover conference registration fees.

Rideal Travel Bursaries offered by the Sir Eric Rideal Trust are offered twice per year to promising academic research workers in the general field of colloid and surface science, to attend international conferences or to visit relevant research institutions for a study visit.
