Hilditch Memorial Lecture

Established 1967

An outstanding authority on oils and fats, Professor Hilditch helped establish the SCI Lipids Group (then known as the Oils and Fats Group). He was its inaugural Chair and a formative influence in the extension of its activities. He is remembered with affection and high regard by group members today, and his portrait on the Chair's badge of office is testament to his enduring legacy.

Award History

The Hilditch Memorial Lecture was established in 1967 in honour of Prof Thomas Percy Hilditch who held the first Campbell Brown Chair of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Liverpool in England. He was also closely associated with the Society's Liverpool Section (now the Liverpool and North West Regional Group) and served twice as its Chairman.

Nominations

Nominations for the Hilditch Memorial Lecture can be made by any SCI Member or Committee officer. The recipient will be selected by the Hilditch Committee, comprising the Chair of SCI's Lipids Group and Liverpool and North West Regional Group and the Chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry Liverpool.

Lecture Details

The winner will be expected to give a lecture at a relevant Lipids or Liverpool and North West event and will be presented with a certificate. The Hilditch Memorial Lecture was last presented in 2015.

Other SCI Awards

Hurter Memorial Lecture

The first Hurter Memorial Lecture was given by Professor George Lunge of Zurich, a close friend and collaborator of Hurter. This lecture is awarded by the Liverpool and North West Regional Group Committee.

Lipids Group International Lecture

The SCI Lipids Group has a multidisciplinary approach to all facets of lipid science and technology and this award is aimed at an authority in a lipid field. The major areas of industrial interest are food, oleochemicals, detergents and personal care products. Analysis and analytical development is another major Group interest.
