Horticulture is one of the most varied sectors of Agri Science. It includes plants produced for Food, both fruits and vegetables and those grown for appearance both small annual flowering species and large trees. Like so many industries Horticulture is at a cross roads with radically new approaches such as Vertical Farming being introduced as a means of producing traditional crops such as strawberries and vegetable herbs. A changing industry results in changed education and training needs for that industry.
The purpose of this visit is to allow members of the SCI Horticulture Group an opportunity to discuss these challenges within the context of how they are seen by one of our leading universities.
The visit is an opportunity for all members of the Horticulture Group to visit the facilities of one of the UK’s leading universities carrying our research and educating students at all levels within the discipline The Target audience is members of the SCI Horticulture Group.
12 noon - Assemble in the Parkinson Room prior to a visit to the International Cocoa Quarantine Centre
This will be followed by Lunch
Visit to the crops and environment facilities and the opportunity for discussion with staff and post graduate students
The visit will end at 4pm
