GSK’s CEO Dame Emma Walmsley, and Saïd Professor of Vaccinology at Oxford University, Professor Sarah Gilbert, will be among the business leaders, scientists, investors and politicians speaking at the UK’s one day Global Investment Summit (GIS), taking place in London on 19th October 2021.
The event, which is being hosted by Her Majesty the Queen and UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will seek to secure foreign investment for the UK’s green industries of the future. The GIS is also aimed at progressing the Government’s ten point plan for green recovery, as well as demonstrating how £12 billion of Government investment is creating and supporting green jobs in the UK.
In a statement the Government said: ‘As the world economy emerges from the ravages of the global pandemic, the Global Investment Summit in London brings together many of the world’s most important CEOs, business leaders and investors, with the explicit goal to find and fund climate action.’
The GIS is set to bring together investors from around the world. The Government has said that some 87% of attendees are from outside of the UK. Other attendees include Professor Sir John Bell, Regius Professor of Medicine, University of Oxford, Nigel Toon, CEO and co-founder of Graphcore, as well as global financial institutions, consultancies and businesses.
In addition to the high-level speakers, the GIS will showcase UK innovation, with 12 companies displaying a range of technologies including electric vehicles, hydrogen, and offshore wind. The Government added that the GIS builds on the success of the newly established UK Office for Investment, which secured an agreement between Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Company and the UK Government for a £1 billion commitment to life sciences.
