Shannon Woodward is a 2023 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.
My name is Shannon Woodward and I am from Toronto, Ontario. From a young age, I was fascinated by chemistry and was enthralled with the scientific investigation process, leading me to pursue chemistry in my post-secondary studies.
I received my undergraduate degree with a major in Chemistry from Queen's University in 2023. As part of my studies, I completed an undergraduate thesis, centering on forensic analysis through analytical chemistry using electrothermal vaporisation coupled to inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ETV-ICPOES). I focused on the determination of a method that could distinguish between different solder samples to assist in the identification of guilty parties in improvised explosive device investigations.
I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree with teaching subjects of chemistry and mathematics and a focus on exceptional learners and investigating how to better support them in schools across Canada.
