SCI Awards - Canada Student Merit Award recipient - Bianca AdamsBianca Adams, Biochemistry, McGill University, is a 2020 Canada Student Merit Award winner. She achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of her class in the fourth and final year of her degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.

With a passion for both chemistry and biology, I pursued a Bachelor of Science at McGill University in the Department of Biochemistry.

As part of the Honours curriculum, I conducted a year long independent Honours Research Project in Dr. Sidong Huang’s Laboratory at McGill University within the Biochemistry Dept. in affiliation with the Goodman Cancer Research Center (GCRC). This enlightening opportunity was instrumental in guiding me towards the field of research.

Enthusiastic about cancer related biomedical research I applied and was admitted into the Bachelor Master Thesis FastTrack program in Biochemistry at McGill University in affiliation with the GCRC, for which I received the Chen-Li Biomedical Research Undergraduate Award.

Currently, I am completing my Master studies in Dr. Huang’s laboratory. The purpose for our research is to discover vulnerabilities in SMARCA4 deficient cancers as well as explain its underlying cellular mechanism. We hope that our work results in the repurposing of FDA approved inhibitors as an effective treatment SMARCA4 deficient cancer patients. Thank you SCI for this award!
