Jacob Tremblay is a 2019 Canada Student Merit Award winner. He achieved this award for obtaining the highest standing of his class in the fourth and final year of his degree. Here is a brief biography of the winner.

Growing up in Quebec, I did my undergraduate studies at the ‘Université de Sherbrooke’ in chemistry. My intellectual curiosity and my analytical spirit had been developed during my undergraduate studies, in which I was able to enrich my knowledge in chemistry and mainly in organic chemistry. During my bachelor's degree, I developed a great interest in research in organic chemistry and the internships I’ve been working on confirmed this passion. I gained a lot of experience in medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry during four 16-week internships in organic chemistry laboratories. Throughout my undergraduate studies, I developed scientific rigor and gained a lot of autonomy. I have been fascinated by research for a long time and I look forward to contributing in my own way. More specifically, I like synthesis methodologies and mechanistic studies where a deep understanding of a specific system is required and where the development of a method in organic chemistry will help in some way other research groups and even industry. I recently chose to pursue my graduate studies at the ‘Université de Sherbrooke’ in Prof. Claude Spino’s academic group.

Besides chemistry, I love to play sports, mainly badminton and tennis!
